Ever been told that you are no good at something? What about being the last person to be picked for a team? A love one dies. A storm hits and there is major damage to you house. You just feel the crushing blow, no matter what it is, is the straw that broke the camel’s back. There is no spark of hope left in you. You feel like Proverbs 18:14;
A man’s spirit will endure sickness,
but a crushed spirit who can bear?
Even Chickenpox are better than how you feel. You just want to go burry your head in the sand. Go back to bed with the covers pulled over your head until the next century.
Just check out a couple verses before, Proverbs 18:10;
The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
the righteous man runs into it and is safe.
A strong tower is protection, a place of rest, and a place of defense. The tower would be the strongest place on the wall of the city in that the wealth would be stored there. Provisions would be stored there too. Because it was higher than the wall archers would be up there and could protect from the enemy at a further distance than those on the wall.
On the outside of the wall the tower can be seen from a distance before the wall. It gives a direction to go to for protection and help. A weary travler would find rest and refuge there as long as he got into the gates before the night.
Our strong tower is found in the name of the LORD. The Hebrew word shem means; famous, renown. The word for LORD here is YHWH, the unspoken name of God. However, this is not the name know for strength or protection. This is the name that is connected with His lovingkindness, mercy and Salvation. YHWH means I was, I Am, I will be. We see this about Jesus in Hebrews 13:8, that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
So when we are crushed in spirit we have a Strong Tower to run to that is the same yesertday, today, and forever. In that strong tower we find love, mercy, grace and Salvation. We are also protected, refreshed and norished.
