When Feeling Trapped

Remember the mean girls at school? How the would find a certain girl to turn against and harasse. Maybe you were the girl that they chose to pick on. Or the center of gossip of those that you work with. No matter what you do you feel trapped by them and it doesn’t matter what you do, you will end up stuck in the middle of their snares.

This week has been hard for me to find time to write. I have been extremely busy with our churches VBS. This year we are doing heros of the Bible, looking at their lives and what they did when they were in trouble. David prayed when he was in trouble. Several times he was running for his life from the reigning king and one of his son’s.  He felt trapped by their plans to make him into something that he wasn’t. All throughout the Psalms you see him praying for the times that he sees no way out except for GOD to do something on his behalf.

In Psalms 141, we see David crying out to YHWH, both as LORD and GOD, asking Him to hear him. David struggled just like us when we are being the center of someones evil intentions. Like David, our first intentions is to strike back. Yet, David prayed the LORD would keep him from doing so. Also he paryed that the LORD would keep his mouth shut. Many times we just want to thow a pitty party and get people on our side.

My favorite part of this Psalms is verses 8-10:

But my eyes are upon You, O GOD the Lord;
In You I take refuge;
Do not leave my soul destitute.
Keep me from the snares they have laid for me,
And from the traps of the workers of iniquity.
Let the wicked fall into their own nets,
While I escape safely.

David knows that GOD is where he could find refuge. He will keep David safe from the traps and plans of those against him. He ask GOD to let the be trapped by their own plans while David escape safely. What a lesson we can learn from David in this Psalms.

Read through Psalms 141 and make an outline for yourself of an escape prayer that you can use in time like these.
