After Judas left, Jesus started teaching the disciples who remained, how to live a life without Him. The very first thing that He did was to give them a new commandment in verses 34 and 35;
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
How appropriate was Jesus’ timing! They all knew that Judas main love was money and himself. As you look at what was written about Judas by the other disciples you can see their hindsight that Judas was self-seeking, he stole from the treasury, he got upset when Mary anointed Jesus, and he betrayed Jesus for money. There was no room for anyone in his life except for Judas.
Jesus wanted His disciples to keep up the mission of love that He was about to fulfill. Throughout His time with them, they had fought who was more important and one of the moms even got involved. Now was the time for them to pull together as a family and put aside their differences. It was time to united in love.
So what happened? Where did we, Christians, go wrong? Why are there so many different denomination? Why are Christians known as haters? Have we forgotten love?
Love is going to ignore the differences we each have. If we truely love like Jesus loves us then we would look past the differences and see Jesus in each other. Then the world would see Jesus and love through us.
However, there are certain groups within Christianty that if you don’t believe that their way is the only way that is right then you are against them or the focus of their hate. Unfortunately, this is what the world sees and calls Christiananity.
It is time that we follow the command that Jesus gave us to LOVE each other so that the world can see Jesus in us.
