How many of us have troubled hearts? Whether it is due to what is going on in this world, family problems, or health issues, we let them trouble our hearts. Take a look at the waffle, stop drooling and look at it. It is not smooth, there are indentations in it and some of those are filled with sugar. Sure it looks so delicious and great, but then so do we sometimes until our hearts are troubled.
Like the waffle, when our hearts are troubled we are letting something other than God fill up the holes in our lives. As we let stuff fill the holes that were made for God we started getting weighed down with burdens. Look at what Jesus says in Matthew 11:28 CEB;
“Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.
Hang in there with me as I go a little more into this waffle analogy. Let’s say Jesus is the 100% real maple syrup, not the fake maple syrup made from corn syrup and flavored to be like maple, Jesus is 100% real maple syrup. See the problem with the fake syrup, like a lot of the false teachers, they look good, kind of similar but they are thick and heavy. The fake fill in the holes and weigh it down more with the heaviness of their rules.
Jesus on the other hand, brings a light sweetness to our lives. He takes and lift the things that are troubling us and weighing us down and gives our hearts a sweet rest. Jesus told His disciples in John 14:1 ESV;
Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
When we entrust our hearts to Jesus, knowing that He is in control, then we can have His sweetness wash away our troubles.
