The Journey Begins

In a land far away, known as Ur, by the southern end of the Euphrates River, lived a man and his beautiful wife. The lived with his dad and took in his nephew when his brother died. His nephew was like a son to him since his wife could not get pregnant. His dad decided to take them all and move to the other end of the Euphrates, to a land called Haran. They stayed there with his dad until he died at 205 years old. Then the real journey began, for the man heard the voice of God to pack up all his belongings, get his wife and nephew, for they were moving away from the place of his fathers to a land he will show him and it won’t be a 3-hour tour on a boat. So they set off to an undisclosed place leave friends and family behind.

Sounds like a plot for a made for TV movie. OK, you won’t find it on TV. This is the story of Sarai. WAIT! I know what you are thinking, “I thought we were studying Sarah.” Well, we are. Sarai was her name before God gave her a new name, just like with Abram received a new name. What an example for us! We hold on to what God says and follow His leading, we will get a new name like stated in Revelation 2:17.

Sarai had faith in her husband that he knew what he was doing when God told him to leave the land that his father was in and follow God’s leading to who knows where. That meant she would have to leave her friends possibly family behind.

Moving is hard enough even when you know where you are moving to. Getting rid of all the stuff that we have collected over the years. Can you imagine not knowing where you are going, what you need to take and what to leave behind?

What is God calling you to do? Are you willing to follow Him to the end of what He has called you to do? Step out in faith like Sarai and follow His leading.
