Many times we hope for something and it seems to take forever for it to happen. We want to give up. Our heart grows weak and we feel sick inside. We are like a little plant struggling to survive in dry and empty soil.
Like the title of the song says, I Beg Your Pardon, I Never Promised You a Rose Garden… A rose bush takes a lot of work, watering, pruning, fertilizing, dusting for aphids, and don’t forget the thorns along with the pain when you get stuck by one in your finger. The finally the bush blooms filled with beauty and the aroma that can take your breath away. Just imagine a garden of the different kinds of roses and quietness that can bring to a restless heart.
As we look at Job and other verses this week we will see however long our wait might be when we don’t give up our hope will be rewarded. Like a woman in labor, the hope of the child will soon be there in her arms keeps her going through the pain. Once the baby is in her arms the pain is forgotten by the joy of the new life in her arms.
Hope is what keeps us going when we feel like giving up. No matter what situations we are in and our hope is all we have left to hold on to when we see through to the end we will have a reward to make it worthwhile.
